Shinden Tatara Ryu Taijutsu

Shinden Tatara Ryu Taijutsu can also be called Shinden Tatara Ryu Daken Taijutsu, but its true original name is Shinden Tatara Jiki-Ryu Taijutsu. The Amatsu Tatara Hisshin Ginkoroku scroll of Amatsu Tatara secrets was given to Ohmononushi-no-Mikoto from Susano-o-no-Mikoto in the ancient time of Japan (Age of the Gods era).

As one of the highest scrolls, it had been kept at Iso-no-Kami Jingu shrine. In August 4 B.C. (Suinin Emperor Era), the scroll was given to Mononobe Toichine-no-Mikoto who was the 8th generation from Nigihayabi-no-Mikoto (Ohmononushi Kushi-Mika-Tama-no Mikoto. After that the scroll was diffused into 20 scrolls as the Izumo Hiki (Amatsu Tatara Hisshin Ginkoroku).

After several generations, Atsuta Kaja Toshihiro named the school Shinden Kito Shin Ryu and separated the Bumon (Martial Arts) from the Shumon (Spiritualism). Kito means “the secrets nine martial arts” and Shin means “the spiritual path of the highest enlightenment”...

These martial arts may be called Shinden Kito-jutsu also. In these martial arts we have Sessho-no-jutsu (Kussho Ratsugi). These martial arts were further developed into Daken-jutsu, Tai-jutsu and Ju-jutsu, etc…

The Sessho-no-jutsu techniques are explained in the Kussho Ratsugi-no-Maki of the Amatsu Tatara Hisshin Ginkoroku.

There exists another transmission stating that in September 88 B.C. (Sujin Emperor Era) a certain Igui-no-Sukune, who was the next generation from Toichine-no-Mikoto, engaged with the enemy of the Emperor Takehaya Yasuhiko. Both of their weapons had broken in combat necessitating that they continue to fight with Kumite (unarmed techniques). Consequently, Ugui killed Takehaya with the special punch techniques of Kussho Ratsugi. The next generation Igoto-no Sukune upgraded and expanded the system as Daken-jutsu.

Later, a certain Akiyama Youtaro also made improvements and put on the school name Shinden Tatara Jiki Ryu Taijutsu as its original and significant name. Akiyama however called it Shinden Tatara Ryu Taijutsu as its usual name, and was given the special scroll of Amatsu Tatara Hisshin Ginko Tora-no-Maki (tiger scroll) for the next generation Soke (grandmaster).

Shinden Tatara Ryu Taijutsu looks very similar to Kijin Chosui Ryu Daken Taijutsu, Kukishin Ryu Daken Taijutsu and even Shinken-Gata Taijutsu Tora-no-Maki but many points of each technique and the pattern names are quite different.
